Restaurateur blames failure on neighbour’s ‘sabotage’
ABUSE, rats and hedge trimming have all been part of a long-running dispute on Chouet headland.
This emerged following the closure of Gerry’s Restaurant with the loss of 12 jobs.
Manager Geraldo Gomes, 30 (pictured), opened the business last year. He said it had started well, but a dispute began between him and the neighbouring Chapple family.
‘There have been lots of bad feelings,’ he said. ‘When we first opened, there was some problems with noise.
‘I felt the business was doing well, but he [Mr Chapple] kept interfering. He seems to have the support of the Vale deputies against me.’
Andrew Chapple, 47, moved into his home on Chouet headland in January last year. He lives there with his wife Aileen, their two teenage daughters and two dogs.
The family said the neighbouring bistro has been a real problem.
‘The kitchen was for a tea room only, so when he moved in it wasn’t really big enough,’ said Mrs Chapple. ‘It meant they began keeping food outside covered in cling film. I called Environmental Health because I was concerned about rats. It just wasn’t hygienic.’ (from thisisguernsey)

Hmmmmm...... it is easy to blame another for your own misfortune! There are always two sides to a story and it seems as if the Chapple family have a completely different view of things.
Word is that Mr Gomes owes his suppliers a fair bit of money! Hope they get paid.....

I feel for Mr. Gomez. Obviously he is in debt if his business was not making any money/ being jeopodised to the extent that people were not visiting. ( I went to a friends wake back in september and the tea and homemade cakes were supurb plus the cafe was spotless inside and out). I know how expensive it can be for the initial outlay of setting up a business and it must be very disheartening when u want to make things nice for people only for some to come and spoil it. Of Course ther are rats etc around, It's right near a tip so what's to say other peoples/neighbours rubbish is not attracting them too....It sounds as tho there was a little bit of "not on my doorstep" attitude or maybe a personal dislike (homophobia/racist)?... But know one except the people directly involved know that for sure. :)
