Jersey family sets up charity for Lafora disease cure
A Jersey charity has been set up to raise money for research into a fatal brain disease. Hope for John has been set up by the family of 19-year-old islander John Sharp who has Lafora disease. The disease, which mainly affects young people, leaves the sufferer unable to eat or walk and can be fatal within three to 10 years. John's mother Alice Morgan said she was hoping the charity could raise money to find a cure. She said: "John's every day living skills are getting more compromised and he needs more and more help with simple tasks. "I have to hold on to hope, that one day he will be laughing all the time and a cure will be found." (from BBC) |
