Spate of potato thefts

There's been a spate of thefts at Jersey's biggest potato farm.

Thieves have been targetting a specific variety of Jersey Royal - called the Jersey Royal Pearls.

They sell for six pounds a kilo.

Now security guards have been hired to protect the vegetables.

And I can remember when spuds were sixpence a lb.!

Its unlikley that the spuds are being sold off island more possible that foreign workers are using them as a staple food. Unemployment is very high in Jersey at the moment. This does not help the famer, but it is a cheap source of food.
