Skipton Swimarathon one week to go to
This year’s Swimarathon is close to its final lap with just one week to go. Already ahead of last year’s total entrant tally and with over 76 Guernsey organisations entering 144 teams, the organisers are pushing hard to reach their target of £50,000 in order to buy a new minibus for the Ron Short Centre, as well as raising funds for other local charities.
Jeff Kitts Chairman of the Skipton Swimarathon organising committee, jointly run by the Lions Club of Guernsey and Guernsey Roundtable said: “We’ve still got some places left, and so I urge anyone interested in raising funds for local causes, should get a team together and join us over the weekend, from 8 to 10 November. It’s great fun, and it’s for very worthy causes. Joining couldn’t be easier, just go onto www.swimarathon.org, and if you want to raise money online, just create a Just Giving account.”
The event has a new sponsor this year - Skipton International – that has worked hard to bring this traditional Guernsey event into the 21st century. Donations can be made via Justgiving at www.justgiving.com/skiptonswimarathon. Supporters and participants are encouraged to go onto the Facebook page, and follow updates on Twitter, in order to harness more support.
The fun starts at 2pm on Friday, 8 October, at the Beau Sejour centre where the event’s Ambassador, Helen Bailey will officially open the event. Swimarathon trophies are to be handed out on 21 October from 6.00pm, by the Governor of Guernsey.
Entering the Skipton Swimarathon
Go to the website www.swimarathon.org to enter and remember, teams of 4 to 8 are invited, swimmers can get together as family groups, friends, from clubs, schools and of course company teams are most welcome.
This year donations and sponsorships can be made on line via www.Justgiving.com at www.justgiving.com/skiptonswimarathon. Even if you are not swimming you can still help support the event by making a donation through the lifebuoy link on www.swimarathon.org.
