Guernsey Police admit paedophiles 'a growing problem'
Guernsey has to do more to stop the "growing problem" of paedophiles in the island, according to police. With no sex offenders register in the island, concerns have been raised a number of times that some paedophiles may slip through the net.
Det Sgt Sarah-Jane Snowdon said it was a growing problem with 12 people being convicted of possessing indecent images of children in the last five years. She said police were "only just scratching the surface" at the moment. Ms Snowdon said: "It's about awareness. I don't think you'll ever prevent the crimes because people who view these images have a sexual interest in children. "There's no doubt about it, they are a danger."
Ms Snowdon said more education in schools would help and a sex offenders register would "be a useful tool for police to use".
Guernsey Police are due to hold an awareness day, looking at internet grooming, sexual abuse, internet safety for children and people's awareness of sexual abuse on 6 November at Beau Sejour.
