A few suggestions to help you plan the next few weeks...
Family fun

The Lukis Room at the Guernsey Museum in Candie Garden is being decorated for a traditional post war style Christmas with family games and activities until 31 December.

  • A Christmas street party is happening in Mill Street on 16 December with live music from The John Wesley Stone, an al-fresco carol service and nativity, face-painting and old fashioned fairground games.

Exhibitions and arts

With Christmas approaching the traditional pantomimes will be taking place. The first, Dick Whittington, comes from the St Steven's Players and is being held at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts from 6-11 December. GADOC are presenting Aladdin at Beau Sejour from 18 December to 1 January and Class Act present Little Jack Horner at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts from 6-9 January.

  • From 19 November to 15 January White Christmas will be taking place in The Greenhouse Gallery. For it artists, architects, photographers and designers from around the world were asked to make an artwork based on the theme White Christmas.
  • While the house is closed for the winter you can still experience a glimpse into Hauteville House , the former home of Victor Hugo , at the Guernsey Museum in Candie Gardens in an exhibition of paintings of the house's interior by Guernsey artist Mark Cook that is on from 18 September until 31 December.

Outdoor

The ice skating rink returns to Market Square for the Christmas period from Saturday 4 December for a month. The rink is open daily from 0900-2100 though booking is required and during the school holiday children will have the opportunity to skate with Santa.

  • Late night shopping for Christmas takes place in St Peter Port on 9, 16 and 23 December with street entertainment and shops open to 2100.
  • The Guernsey Conservation Volunteers undertake work throughout the year on many aspects of natural life in Guernsey. They are always after new volunteers and you can find out more at their website .
  • Farmer's and local produce markets continue into December with one happening in St Martin's at either the St Martin's Community Centre or Saumarez Manor on Saturday mornings. Castel's market happens at Fairfield, in good weather or Le Friquet Garden Centre in winter every other Saturday morning and in St Peter's you can find the market in the Community Hut behind the Post Office every Wednesday morning.

Music

On December 11 the Sark Folk Festival are bringing 6 Day Riot, who headlined the festival back in July, back to the islands for a night of modern folk and roots music at the Fermain Tavern with support coming from Sark's Big Sheep.
