Jersey Refuge runs out of cash Empty Jersey Refuge runs out of cash

Jersey's Men's Refuge - which opened just three months ago - have revealed they need £25,000 to survive.

The home in St Aubins for men who have fallen on tough times, is running out of cash.

The Refuge's founder, Colin Taylor, explained that the running costs for the refuge are much higher than anticipated.

He said: "Things like essentially building work have had to be done - we've just had to fire-proof the whole building.

"We also didn't realise quite how expensive it was going to be to financially support the men - around £300 a week. There are things like doctors fees and say for example if someone can't work and is entitled to a sick note, then we need to pay for the doctor's appointment.

"Another example is counselling - which is so important at the refuge, but that costs - and it is £60 a session.

"So there are many cost involved and we need people's help - if you are thinking of organising a fund-raising event then it would be fantastic if you could bear us in mind."

If you want to get in touch with the Refuge to fund-raise for them or donate then you can do so with the following details:
