Cash call as tourism funding runs dry
FUNDING for major tourism events is under threat because a grant fund the States set up in 2001 has run out of money.
The board running the Tourism Development Fund are appealing for more cash from the States, because there is just £75,000 left in the account.
In 2001 the States promised to put £10m in the fund, and to use it to stimulate tourism projects in the public and non-profit sector. But in total, only £2.2m was ever paid and no new money has been put in since 2006.
Recent projects funded by the TDF include the Branchage Film Festival, the Jersey Fish Festival, the Jersey Boat Show and maintenance of Dolmen sites (from JEP)
