Cash incentives for jobless teenagers
JOBLESS teenagers are being offered cash incentives to attend training schemes in a bid to tackle Jersey’s unemployment crisis. Those who complete an eight-week course will receive £75. And young people who go on to do unpaid work placements will be paid £35 a week, plus a £100 bonus if they stick it out for 13 weeks.
The payments, which will cost the taxpayer around £110,000 over the next year, will be available to Islanders aged 16 to 18 who undertake training and work placements organised through Advance to Work, the Social Security department, the Prince’s Trust and the Jersey Employment Trust.
They will be funded from the Social Security department’s existing budget and could be worth hundreds of pounds to some youngsters if they commit to the training. (from JEP)
