18 jobs could go at Guernsey hotel

18 jobs could be axed as a Guernsey company announces its closing one of its hotels for a major refurbishment.

Staff at Le Chalet Hotel have been given notice of redundancy.

The hotel is part of the Vista Hotels group and it overlooks Fermain Bay on Guernsey's south coast.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: "Le Chalet Hotel will close on 3rd January and will reopen again as a hotel on completion of refurbishment.

This is part of an expansion and development plan that reaffirms Vista Hotels commitment to the tourism sector in the island.

"Due to the major work required, staff at Le Chalet Hotel have been given notice of redundancy and Vista Hotels are currently going through a consultation period.

"A number of staff will be absorbed into alternative jobs within the hotel group and for others placement in other local businesses will be explored."

if these are foreign workers here on a nine month permit then surely they will be going home anyway.
