Beau Sejour Leisure Centre shedding £800,000

Channel Television can reveal Guernsey's Beau Sejour Leisure Centre is set to lose more than £800,000 next year.

At a time when the island's government is on a cost-cutting exercise, the centre in St Peter Port is actually increases its losses.

At the start of this year, it was expected to make a loss of £664,000 this year - that has since been revised up to an even bigger loss of £776,000.

But in 2012 that is set to grow to £836,000.

New financial projections for 2012 predict the money the centre makes from sports users will actually go up slightly from £976,000 to £997,000.

But it is expected there will be a £24,000 fall in takings from gym users (£1,179,000 this year compared to £1,155,000 in 2012) and a £12,000 drop in the money earned from its entertainment business (£351,000 ths year v £339,000 in 2012) - and all that as the cost of running the place is rising.

I can remember the time when you had to pay to go into the place .it is free now .you only pay to do something while you are there .
They do have a super little cafe in there . i use it when out walking to have a rest and a cuppa .
Such a shame it is not all used but it is a huge place .and a very expensive one to hire
Perhaps they should have kept the cinema there .that would have helped bring in a few .
