Guernsey's new chief minister has released his nominations for the 10 ministerial positions ahead of the elections on Tuesday.

Deputy Peter Harwood wants the current ministers of education, housing, health and social service and culture and leisure to continue in their roles.

His other candidates include two deputies serving their first term; Gavin St Pier and Paul Luxon.

He has also announced in which order they will be debated.

Nominations in order of debate

Treasury and Resources Minister
Deputy Gavin St Pier

Social Security Minister
Deputy Allister Langlois

Commerce and Employment Minister
Deputy Roger Perrot

Home Minister
Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq

Education Minister
Deputy Robert Sillars

Public Services Minister
Deputy Paul Luxon

Health and Social Services Minister
Deputy Hunter Adam

Environment Minister
Deputy Roger Domaille

Housing Minister
Deputy Dave Jones

Culture and Leisure Minister
Deputy Mike O'Hara

Deputy Harwood has also nominated Deputy Langlois as his preferred candidate for deputy chief minister, a position that can only be held by a minister.

The chief minister said: "There will naturally be a number of very able deputies who will be disappointed not to have been included in the list and I have no doubt that many may seek nomination from the floor on Tuesday.

"I would hope, however, that they will also be keen to put forward their names for the departmental elections that will take place on Friday.

"There is a great depth of talent within this assembly that we need to bring into the different departments.

"The list also represents a fair balance between experience (including some ministers being nominated for re-election) and those who have been newly elected."

Two members of the previous Policy Council do not feature in the list - deputies Lyndon Trott and Mark Dorey, who were respectively chief minister and social security minister in the last assembly.

He has decided not to nominate anyone for the chairmanships of the four States committees.

FIVE contested elections are guaranteed tomorrow as spurned ministers have confirmed they will be standing from the floor against the chief minister’s nominees.

Over the weekend a number of deputies have decided they would stand for ministerial positions, resulting in Commerce and Employment, Education, Social Security, Public Services and Environment having contested elections.

Chief Minister Peter Harwood, pictured, announced his ministerial nominations on Friday.

However, he faced almost instant criticism for the lack of experience in his team.

The Assembly will select ministers tomorrow. Anyone can stand against Deputy Harwood’s selection, if they get a proposer and seconder.

Inexperience can surely do no worse than 'set in their ways' otherwise Guernsey will just get the same old same old!!! Guernsey needs to get some fresh blood/with fresh ideas without all the 'golden oldies' putting their oar in!!! We have had four years of self-congratulatory people steaming ahead and doing what they want instead of what the electorate want ...... time for change and Peter has the courage to try it!!!! Matt Fallaize was inexperienced, but in my opinion he has the right head for politics.....let's hope the new lot turn out to be of the same ilk....................
