Armed Robbery At Guernsey Pharmacy Empty Armed Robbery At Guernsey Pharmacy

Post by Thistle Tue 15 May 2012, 8:06 am

Guernsey Police are investigating an armed robbery at L'aumone Pharmacy.

Around 5 o'clock last night the offender threatened staff at the
Pharmacy with a knife and stole a quantity of medication.

No one was hurt during the incident and a number of arrests have already
been made.

Guernsey Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward to help
with the investigation.

Officers would also like to reassure islanders that everything is being
done to identify the offender and that incidents like this are very rare
in Guernsey.

it was coming onto facebook as soon as it happened . just goes to show how fast the media can get things now .
someone in my friends was reporting back they were there with their children and were so scared .
the area has been spoken about on face book by tenants that live there for a few years now saying how bad it is with needles in the roads and pavements some have to be extra careful when taking theirs dogs for a walk and children have been seen picking these needles up.
a lot of tenants have been complaining to the police and housing about the situation for months now so hoping it will now get better .

what i meant by that thistle was for someone to get to that point of desperation in the first place, to feel they have no alternative but to do something like that!

but thistle, some people do have an addiction to drugs, and therefore feel driven to do such things, possibly not even thinking of any else but the need for medication, and i feel sorry for anyone that would be that desperate, no matter if its drugs, alcohol, or food. we all do stupid things when we are desperate!

Just a thought - is he local? and if it is drugs it is not a nice life anywhere, not just Guernsey....but Guernsey does give help if it is asked for (I know) but threatening and frightening people doing their jobs is not going to win him much sympathy ... unfortunately that is the truth (unpalatable as it may seem).

i think he is local karma, i have no idea what help guernsey offers, but obviously not enough! yes i totally agree threatening etc is not a good thing to do, but sometimes people who have certain problems are not always thinking straight, im just saying its easy to condemn others and point the finger,,,, but,,,, life`s not always easy and everything is not always black and white!

From what I've heard about him I'm sure there are people in Guernsey who are much more deserving of your sympathy than this bloke.

for once we agree on something kingcole...yes schoolyjo he may have been addicted to drugs but that is no excuse for carrying out a violent act...i think there is more help available to drug addicts in guernsey than any other addiction..having lost someone very close to me through alcohol addiction for which there is very little help i know this to be true.

yes i agree with you thistle, but drug addiction must be terrible, i have no knowledge of what its like but it cannot be a pleasant place to be at in your head, and carrying out violent acts is wrong, but i would have thought people would act out of character while under the influence of said drugs/ alcohol ! as i said i do not know, and yes you have to feel sorry for the victims of crime too, i was just trying to say being an addict to anything isnt a life choice, and i would think a very difficult thing to have to deal with, the conflict in your own head must be immense, im not trying to justify what these people do, just saying that maybe they are not in complete control at the time .

How is it not a choice ? A very unwise choice maybe, but still a choice.

IMO everybody has the choice to go 'right' or 'wrong' it is up to them....some people play the victim all their lives (and know how to play the system) I am talking from experience....my son went wrong and my daughter went right - their upbringing was exactly the same - we loved them both equally, but my son thought it was up to his dad and I to see that he was 'OK' daughter thought it was up to her......

Children choose their own path. some get in with the wrong gand and parents can do nothing about it
we have to each learn from our own mistakes in life
some like this lad got in with the wrong lot and has now got an addiction
he will be prisoned ,so i hope he will be helped while inside to correct this and then given the change to lead a normal life and work with in the island .instead of always being in and out of trouble costing the tax payer money

schoolyjo, you say addiction isn't a life choice in my partners case it was a death choice..he chose to carry on drinking although he had been warned it would kill him and it did. any addict has to choose to try whatever becomes their addiction....they also have to choose to stop using whatever they are addicted too and without them choosing to stop no amount of counseling will do any good x

yes thistle, such is my point , addiction isnt an easy thing to overcome, and just because someone cannot overcome it, doesnt make them any less worth of sympathy!
