Jersey Police enquiry desk will close at night
The enquiry desk at Jersey's Police Station will close at night, with staff moving to support the control room.
Supt Andre Bonjour, who is leading the project, said very few people call into the station late at night.
He said the change was part of ongoing States savings initiatives and would be trialled for six months starting on 7 January.
Supt Bonjour said it was hoped it would uniformed officers to do more front-line policing.
He said anyone who does need to visit the desk at night could call officers on an intercom.
Supt Bonjour said as part of the States spending review the force had already lost one customer support officer at the enquiry desk.
He said: "We must constantly review how we make best use of our resources to ensure we can continue to keep Jersey a safe and secure place.
"I am sure the public will be reassured that we have our uniformed police officers and police staff being used in the most effective and efficient way."
