Kart track protest
Campaigners have taken advantage of the ITEX round-Jersey charity walk to protest over ambitions to form a kart track at Crabbe.
More than a thousand people set off to test their stamina and raise money for charity.
There were plenty of official feeding stations, but at around the half-way stage walkers came across a different group of well-wishers.
Along with bottles of water they were also handing out leaflets bringing attention to plans develop part of the now-restored former green waste site at Crabbe into a kart track.
St Mary resident David Langlois said there were three main reasons for opposing the track plan - noise, restricted traffic access to the site and despoilation of the environment. He said the site was now a place natural beauty and that it would be incongruous to establish a kart racing track there.
The protestors have set up a website cowsorkarts@crabbejersey.com to canvas views from around the island.
The long walk for karting enthusiasts to find a permanent home looks as though it may still have a long way to go. (from CIonline)
