‘Air links in decline’ warning from Alderney
ALDERNEY has warned Guernsey it risks ‘international humiliation’ if it allows the smaller island to spiral into decline through mismanagement of its air links.
The comment came in the States of Alderney’s response to a call for evidence from the Scrutiny Committee inquiry into the security of the Bailiwick’s air links.
Its three-page response was written principally by Dr Andy Sloan, an economics expert commissioned by the States of Alderney to compile a report on the desirability of the airport development.
The report criticises Aurigny and the States of Guernsey for its failure to invest adequately in Alderney’s airfield and, as Aurigny’s only shareholder, for its sluggish response to changing challenges.
