Bullying in our schools

Which brave soul within our education system is going to own up that we have a major problem with bullying in our schools of both pupil and teacher......

Come on Peter, nobody in Education or States Member would admit that

And yet it has been a problem for years. Todays press made mention of it . It has been there from the start, and will never end..........unfortunately !!

Pegasus I agree who will indeed be brave enough to not only come out and say there is a problem but do something about it....But let us not forget the victims here and there's loads of them. But that's ok it seems.

bullying has gone on in schools for as long as i can remember.it isn't something new. you are right though something needs to be done about it politicians past and present have promised to sort the bullying problem out but nobody has.

School bullying is a very difficult form of abuse to deal with purely because of the environment the bullying takes place in. However, it is a social problem which impacts on the lives of the victim for decades. Let’s not forget the bully who may be crying out for help because of the social issues at home they also suffer. No child is born evil all children are born innocent, it's the adults who corrupt the system just keep toping them up because they do not have the will or inclination to care.



It is alleged that we have lost good teachers because of the bullying perpetrated by local teachers on outside teaching staff and it is shameful.

Makes me wanna get hold of the little swines and sort them out myself....its terrible....

son had some bullying at school...but thats another story....in the end
i did take matters into my own hands and had words (very loud ones)
with one particular lad...it stopped after that..

I would of been mortified too of ever been told that my child was a bully....i do think parents are partly to blame ....

My daughter is currently suffering from bullying as Beaucamp. The head of year laughs it off and says that she is making it up. I know from other sources that bullying is rife in the school, including towards some teachers. It is about time that this was stamped out.

If your 100% sure i would ask your daughter to identify them and i would punch their lights out.

Bullying is certainly rife in schools, as well as the work place. One of the major problems is the bully's get "punished" by that I mean given a couple of days of school, please see my Blog. http://voiceforchildren.blogspot.com/ The victims are in fear of "grassing" on the bully's because after they've had their couple of days off, they come back and victimise the victim for being a grass.

The bully has learnt nothing, other than the worst than can happen to them is a bit of time off school, that is not a deterent it is an invitation.

The bully's need educating in the consequences of their actions on their victim, punishment should be a last resort and should be a little harsher than given a couple of days off school.

There are no incentives or realistic deterents in place that might make the bully think twice. Most school's have a very good anti bully policy in place, the problem is, it is never implemented.

A good start would be to have a dedicated teacher/councillor to deal solely with the issues of bullying. The problem with that is the reported incidents of bullying statistics will go up and that would not look good for the school.

It's a case of priority's, help the victims and bully's and tackle the problem openly and transparently. Or keep the good name of the school and brush it under the carpet!

Victims of bullying often think it's their fault - it's not. No one has to put up with bullying.

There are many different types of bullying. Charity Bullying UK says it can include:


People calling you names
Making things up to get you into trouble
Hitting, pinching, biting, pushing and shoving
Taking things away from you
Damaging your belongings
Stealing your money
Taking your friends away from you
Posting insulting messages on the internet or by text
Making silent or abusive phone calls
Spreading rumours
Threats and intimidation

Bullies can also frighten you so that you don't want to go to school, so that you pretend to be ill to avoid them.



So what can you do if you're a victim of bullying?

Bullying UK recommends you tell a friend, tell a teacher and tell your parents if you are being bullied. Also try and tell your form tutor at school so they know what's going on.
They also suggest you stay in safe areas of the school at break and lunchtime where there are plenty of other people.

What can parents do if your children are victims of bullying?
There's no definite way of spotting if your child's being bullied as they might go to great lengths to hide it. But things like unexplained illness, reluctance to go to school, bruising, or torn clothes may be a sign something's serious is going on.

Talk to your child, listen and be patient. Ask them questions sensitively and don't interrogate them.

Go and speak to a teacher but have as much information as you can about the bullying. Write yourself some notes so you don't forget any major points.

The advice from various anti bullying groups is:
Give the school a reasonable amount of time to work out minor problems - around three days or one week.
Get daily updates from your school.
If your child is being bullied online, copy EVERYTHING. Save all emails or instant-message conversations.

ChildLine's special Bullying Helpline on Freephone 0800 44 11 11, open Monday to Friday, 3.30pm - 9.30pm. This is a free, confidential telephone advice.
Out of these hours the main ChildLine number 0800 11 11 may be contacted. This is open 24 hours a day.
For children who've been severely bullied there are Red Balloon learner centres.
They provide an intensive care programme of full time education in a safe learning environment for children unable to go to school.
The Red Balloon centres are based in Norwich, Cambridge and North West London.

Guernseyguy07 I feel sorry for you, my son was bullied for most of his secondary education, and the teachers were not over helpful,

Its lucky that it has not affected his life, and now he has great friends and enjoys life to the full

bullying in schools must be tackled now.kids all over the world are being bullied as much today as when i was at school being bullied in the 50's and 60's.maybe its time our minister for education put a plan together. i know its hard but stand up to the bullies .bullies are cowards and need to be taught a lesson.

I agree with that......I was bullied at school and it still stays with me now (from the 1950's) I sometimes despair of a world where this is condoned...but while people still kill /main each other and rape and kill little children...........I shall be (as my mother predicted) quite happy when my time to go arrives

But the thing is Bullying in Guernsey Schools (and Other places) is Very bad.
People Get picked on for No Reason at all.
Just Like me,I have a Gr8 Relationship with the members of staff and i get picked on time after time.
Being called a Lick Ass.
Plus in this Day and Age it doesn't help if your Gay!

Kids are so cruel - they pick on anyone or anything that is different! (then in there late teens hey all want to be different)
but I do feel it is how they receive things from the home front.....children are not born prejudiced but I have heard comments (even from friends of mine) in front of children that would amount to brainwashing them with prejudice!!! such a shame when everybody could be happy together.!

Well not all Teens are like the ones that we see on the Side of the street. Some of us are very nice and Are Willing to give people Help.
Were as some teens would just kill ya.

I just keep thinking to myself that one day i will have a better job then what they would have

keep your head held high mate you are better than the bullies

Most teens are nice (my grandson is 19 and a very nice person - not perfect - just nice!!!!) I still think that home life has quite a bit to do with it - and except in the 'hardened areas' they normally grow out of being 'not nice' once they don't get peer pressure - or when they don't care about peer pressure any more - just give them time!!! (I know, I know, easier said than done when you are on the receiving end - but this too shall pass)
