Re: Night Life For Teenagers Through the Years
when i was a teenager i would meet up with friends and go to the milk bar or a youth club.when we did start going to pubs yes underage we would sit very quietly with half a lager and lime.we would go for walks etc.kids today have so much more than we did as teenagers.we had black and white tv,radiograms, record players,lp records and singles.i was a teenager in the sixties .we had to be home at a reasonable time at night if not you lost your right to go out again for a while.boyfriends had to be vetoed by your parents.we always found things to occupy our minds.life was probably not much different to today other than we didn't have much money and we respected other people and their lives and properties.imo respect is something that is sadly lacking in some of the youths of today.although there are some fabulous youngsters out there.

Re: Night Life For Teenagers Through the Years
Ahh Guernseyguy07 they just worry thats all...
I am the very same way with my son and he is 21 this year..lol
I ask where he is going ..who he is with... i even ask who it is on his mobile phone..lol
I know sometimes i must annoy him ..but its just a parent thing....or maybe i am just nosey!!!
When i was a teenager.......I would never have stepped out of line....I respected my parents and their rules ....If i was told to be in at a certain time then i would...
We went to the odd house party or disco at Beau Sejour but i can honestly say i never would of drank alcohol under age....I was to scared...lol I would of been in big trouble .....
I would go into town on a saturday lunchtime ...have a bite to eat with girlfriends...do some mooching about the shops and walk back home again....
Same as Thistle said...boyfriends were vetted....I was 17 when i had my first serious boyfriend...and we went out togther for nearly 3 years....times have changed to what the youngsters get up to now a days... I can't believe what some 15 and 16 year old girls are allowed to do.......its scary !!!!!

Re: Night Life For Teenagers Through the Years
This makes me laugh........my daughter was a 'normal' teenager with all the angst that goes with it - and being half Italian (and me quarter Irish) the rows we had were something to behold - but always ended up with us falling into each others arms laughing uncontrollably!!! (realising how silly we both looked) Now she has a 19 year old who wants to do what he wants to do!!! (including drinking) for the last 4 years I've had her on the phone say things like mother you'll never guess what he did/said etc and I have just laughed and said 'wonder where he got that from' LOL and she admitted not too long ago after a fraught time with him that she was very very surprised that her dad and I had let her live!!!!!! So guernseyguy you too will look back in wonderment :-)))))

Re: Night Life For Teenagers Through the Years
About my teenage years - in London - all girls school until I was 17 - policeman for a father ......no I did not get away with anything - my dad used to phone up the nearest police station if I was invited out and any slightest hint of trouble I was forbidden!!!!! or if I went, even up until 20 my dad met me and walked me home!!!!!!
So I bought my children up in a relaxed manner - suited one (girl) but the boy went off the rails for lack of supervision (his words not mine) so you cannot win you can just be there for them!!!!

Re: Night Life For Teenagers Through the Years
At 16 I was busy as I had my motorbike and played sports, mainly skating & Roller Hockey! Too spotty for girls then.... lol!
Part of the problem these days seems to be that youngsters get too much too soon. We did not have the expectations for material possessions that seem to be the norm now. I base this on my own 'young adults' expectations and wants....

Wait till your a parent and then you will understand the no scooter, and where are you going. You are lucky to have parents that care, some parents don't give a hoot. So make the most of it.Guernseyguy07 wrote:I Agree.
