Youth ID cards to be reintroduced Empty Youth ID cards to be reintroduced

A proof-of-age card has been reintroduced to try to cut down on underage drinking in Guernsey, the Drug and Alcohol Strategy Co-ordinator said.
Andrea Nightingale said the scheme had been first tried on the island in 2007 but did not take off.
She said it was being reintroduced now with more publicity.
She added she hoped the cards would reduce sales to those underage and cut down on drink-fuelled anti-social behaviour.
Ms Nightingale said one of the aims was to allow over-18s buy the goods they were legally entitled to.
The scheme has been backed by the States, Guernsey Police, licensees, local retailers and the UK Government.
Ms Nightingale said: "The scheme we are proposing has been implemented in more than 1,000 schools in the UK and has been a huge success."
The group plans to visit island schools and colleges to give students more information about the initiative.

GD says "It didn't work last time don't think it will this time"
GD is correct in his assumption.

I just wonder how works that a 16 year old is able to vote in the elections/have sex without being prosecuted - but not be old enough to buy a drink in a pub without ID! that gives a mixed set of values on being adult enough to change the way the island is run, but not how they run their own lives - IMO very puzzling!!!

It is a well known fact that most kids will either use an elder siblings ID or have a fake ID with an altered date of birth to show that they are 18 or over. As most people that might ask for ID only give it a quick glance this often works and the youngsters get their drink. This is nothing new and has been going on for years. I do not think that this card system will work, but nice try.
