Plans for new Leisure Centre in Alderney Empty Plans for new Leisure Centre in Alderney

Alderney's hoping it could soon have a leisure centre - But there's a big stumbling block. Islanders need to find £2 million.

Plans showing the proposed scheme are currently on show at the Island Hall.

More than £300,000 has already been pledged, while planning permission to build a facility at York Hill has been approved.

Trustees hope the centre will contain a multi-purpose sports hall, swimming pool, squash court, gymnasium, bowling alley, cafeteria and dance studio, as well as changing facilities and steam and sauna rooms.

An agreement with UK-based health club operators Bladerunner means the facility will be operated independently of the Trust once it is built.

Bladerunner has helped set up 90 similar centres in the UK and has agreed to share profits over a certain amount with the Trust. (from CTV)
