What is better now than in the past?
I have had several discussions with people in my shop and mostly about the current state of the worls finances etc, but a few times we have got to a question "What is better today than it was say 30-50 years ago"
If you ask the question you get very few answers as most people say things are worse.
So what do you think is better now or getting better than it was in the recent past.

nothing is better.you have more crime/vandalism,everything is so expensive.life was so much nicer before computers, mobile phones ,television etc.people spent time together playing games, talking ,walking and listening to the radio.bring back the good old days.

Re: What is better now than in the past?
I agree to a point - but there again we wouldn't all be having fun in here if that was the case and as I am almost the last in the family - it would be a tad lonely (gathering around the radio all on my own).......BooHoo - Oh and I wouldn't be married to an Australian - so guess I've just found some good points (without really trying)

Re: What is better now than in the past?
IMO the old days were miles better ok the work was a lot harder . it seemed people spoke to each other more you knew most people , it would take a hour to walk down the high street speaking to peeps you knew . We never had a lot but what we did have we appreciated it . People helped each other a lot more then , and a slower pace of life .

We are quite lucky - the Bridge people are still 'Guernsey' don't get many rich folks living down here in the '*umhole' of the island - so we all still chat and it still takes me hours to do my shopping - when Razz first came over he couldn't believe how long I was gone - just for a loaf of bread!!!!

Re: What is better now than in the past?
Not directed solely at you karma, but there seems to be an awful lot of resentment to 'rich people' nowadays; like being rich in itself makes you less of a person than a 'salt of the earth' working class person, who we all know must be a much nicer person for not having money!??karma wrote:We are quite lucky - the Bridge people are still 'Guernsey' don't get many rich folks living down here...
As a youngster myself I can't compare today with 30years ago, let alone 50!

Re: What is better now than in the past?
Theres no doubt that techology like cell phones is better but has it improoved quality of life, I am not sure that except in emergencies that it has,
as for quality of music sound may have improoved but I dont think music its self has.

Re: What is better now than in the past?
how can CDJ even think that it is better to make abortion easy .abortion is murder plain and simple.it was great to receive a letter that wasn't a bill before email came into our lives.the music was better back then.how is healthcare better when hospitals are full of mrsa and cdiff .things that were never heard of in the old days when there was a matron in the hospital.Travel is much to expensive from guernsey for people to afford going for a holiday on a regular basis.

Troy - I think you have a gift for taking things out of context - and putting your own interpretation on what you THINK people mean (not just me)
So as the wise man said:
"CALM DOWN DEAR" you should know Karma enjoys playing Devil's advocate
and now as much as I'd like to stay and play I'm off to Jersey for the day....back later....

Re: What is better now than in the past?
we pay enough for our medical care.i guess one of the good things in guernsey is that we have a low prescription charge in comparison to how it used to be when all prescriptions were private and we had to pay market prices for all our drugs
