Re: What is better now than in the past?
how can CDJ even think that it is better to make abortion easy .abortion is murder plain and simple.it was great to receive a letter that wasn't a bill before email came into our lives.the music was better back then.how is healthcare better when hospitals are full of mrsa and cdiff .things that were never heard of in the old days when there was a matron in the hospital.Travel is much to expensive from guernsey for people to afford going for a holiday on a regular basis.

Troy - I think you have a gift for taking things out of context - and putting your own interpretation on what you THINK people mean (not just me)
So as the wise man said:
"CALM DOWN DEAR" you should know Karma enjoys playing Devil's advocate
and now as much as I'd like to stay and play I'm off to Jersey for the day....back later....

Re: What is better now than in the past?
we pay enough for our medical care.i guess one of the good things in guernsey is that we have a low prescription charge in comparison to how it used to be when all prescriptions were private and we had to pay market prices for all our drugs

Sorry you're wrong, abortion is almost never murder, and even less frequently plain and simple.Thistle wrote:...abortion is murder plain and simple...

I met my Guernsey rose in 1971.Return airfare was a non-negotable £17.00 Which equates to £300.00 plus.So don't tell me travel is THAT expensive

My original post was really supposed to say what is better about Guernsey rather than modern technology.
The roads, buildings, harbours businesses, quality of life, people, government, beaches, parks leisure activities etc

Abortions will always happen the fact people can obtain this via legal channels is a far better option than the back street boys of the last 30 years.
And medical advances are so much improved only a fool would suggest otherwise many diseases which we previously died from are now treatable hence the longer lifespan of todays generation.

Re: What is better now than in the past?
Perhaps we should re-title this post to "Cynical people have a grumble"!!! : pink lol :
Everyone today has higher expectations and wants. Look at our kids!! They expect all sorts of things that we could only dream about when we were their age!
When we, and our parents for that matter, were younger we wanted for less and generally were happier with our lot. As I say, expectations today are a lot higher across all areas.

This Grumpy Old Woman says (Mary Whitehouse style) stop the adverts for kids toys etc., they did it with ciggies!!!!!! Kids hear this smug voice telling them that a certain 'must have' is ONLY £000.00 etc etc and they are brainwashed into feeling that without it they are a nobody!!!! the same as that stupid advert for L'Oreal which ends up 'because I'm worth it'....bah! humbug!!!!!!

Re: What is better now than in the past?
please read the following email i had today
a different
look at abortion
Doubt we have ever thought of it exactly
this way.
A Doctor's Wisdom
A worried woman went to
her gynecologist and said: Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need
your help! My baby is not
even 1 yr. old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close together. So
the doctor said: 'Ok and what do you want me to do?' She said: 'I want you to
end my pregnancy, and I'm counting on your helpwith
this. The
doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady: 'I
think I have a better solution for your problem. It's less dangerous
for
you too.' She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.
Then he said
'You see, in order for you not to have to take care of 2 babies at the same
time, let's kill the one in your arms.
This way, you could rest some before the other one is born. If we're going to
kill one of them, it doesn't matter which one it is. There would be no risk for
your body if you chose the one in your arms. The lady was horrified and said:
'No doctor! How terrible! It's a crime to kill a child! 'I agree', the doctor
replied. 'But you seemed to be ok with it, so I thought maybe that was the best
solution. The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point. He convinced
the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that's already been born
and one that's still in the womb. The crime is the same!
If you agree, please forward. Together we can help
save precious lives!

Re: What is better now than in the past?
That doctor obviously knows nothing of professional ethics, the law(in a local context at least) or even medical care.
I'm sure his views on infanticide would stand him in good stead with his fellow inmates once jailed.
