States Members may have pay frozen
STATES Members could be in line for a pay freeze.
St Peter Constable John Refault has this morning tabled a proposition to stop the proposed £1,000-a-year pay rise from April, saving almost £40,000.
He says that with many Islanders already out of work and with others facing an uncertain future with the threat of redundancy hanging over them, the States should lead by example.
No date has been set for the debate on Mr Refault’s proposition. Politicians get slightly over £43,000 per year for sitting in the States — made up of a remuneration payment and an automatic expenses payment.
An interim increase of £1,000 a year was proposed by the independent body that oversees Members’ pay, but the Constable of St Peter says that this should be put on ice from April. (from thisisjersey)
Rightly so a recession is here and States Members should be prepared to forgo any pay rise...

They get paid far too much - not a real world paycheque - so hopefully the answer is yes!!!!

Re: States Members may have pay frozen
I think it's right that they're not taking a rise under the current financial conditions, but I don't agree that the amount paid for the office is far too much. What do you think a real-world salary should be?karma wrote:They get paid far too much - not a real world paycheque - so hopefully the answer is yes!!!!

it is only in recent years that deputies have been paid a salary as such.payments used to be paid for how many meetings you attended and which committees you were on.
