SARK BRACES ITSELF FOR TOUGH FINANCIAL YEAR
could the following have something to do with sark trying to stop other boats landing materials in the island.makes one wonder eh.
"It looks like Sark will have dip into its rainy day fund…. The island's finances are being put before Chief Pleas at their Easter Meeting. Sark's income for 2008 turned out to be around £122,000 more than predicted. So a net surplus of over £160,000 is being added to their reserves. Most of the extra cash came in from treizieme and property transfer taxes collected over the year. And £21,000 was down to higher-than-expected investment income. But with interest rates dropping dramatically, it seems Chief Pleas will get a lot less from what they've invested over 2009. Because of that, politicians are looking at spending £60,000 from the Provision for Unforeseen Expenditure. The Finance Committee's warning the island does need to keep a substantial amount of reserves to one side especially since they committed up to £200,000 to support Isle of Sark Shipping."
