How Green is Your AGA?
AGA cookers are very popular, particularly in country houses and are frequently owned by people with 'green' leanings, but just how bad are they for the environment?
An average AGA emits 9 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year, so let us see how that compares with a few things that are easier to understand:-
1. The average house emits 6 tonnes of CO2 per year, from all sources including heating, cooking, hot water and domestic appliances.
2. A Lamborghini Murcielago 495g per km = about 12,000 miles to emit 9 tonnes
3. A Hummer H3 327g per km = about 17,000 miles to emit 9 tonnes
3. A Ford Focus 1.6 petrol 159g per km = about 60,000 miles to emit 9 tonnes
4. A Toyota IQ 99g per km = about 90,000 miles to emit 9 tonnes
5. Flying from London to Tokyo and back, four times would emit about 9 tonnes per passenger
6. The CO2 emission factor for electricity is taken to be 0.527 kg / kWh so about 17,000 kWh would emit 9 tonnes
7. A 1kW electric heater would have to run continuously for over 700 days and nights to emit 9 tonnes
8. A 7kW electric shower would have to run continuously for over 100 days and nights to emit 9 tonnes
8. An energy saving compact fluorescent lamp (11W) would have to run continuously for nearly 200 years to emit 9 tonnes
Makes you think!

Aga's are a style/class statement.Nothing more.(quite handy if you live in an isolated farm without electricity)
