Union boss fumes to learn of pay and conditions review

AN INDEPENDENT review of the terms and conditions of all States staff is imperative to ensure the structure of workers’ pay and benefits is sustainable, according to a deputy who has placed an amendment to ensure it gets the go-ahead.

Deputy Mary Lowe wants to see the Policy Council and the Public Sector Remuneration Committee, which failed to receive the necessary funding as part of the original States Strategic Plan report, given the cash to carry out the review.

She has placed an amendment that would take half of the £250,000 earmarked for improving storage of museum objects and divert it to this project instead.

The review would look at all details of the terms and conditions of States employees, including the controversial final salary pension scheme. (from GEP)

Is there no end to this womans ability to waste tax payers money. Not long ago she wasted roughly £250,000 on the firemen fiasco. when it was found to be more likely the States reluctance to negotiate at fault, things went quite. Now it's lets look at wages and conditions and see if we can dabble in that. Best way to save Island money is not to vote for Mrs Lowe again.

Is it not the chief officers of departments who are tasked to supply, efficient and cost effective public services, if they are not, why not?

Sorry to say this but this is why you need people in the states that have some business experience be it large or small, rather than a person who is voted in because they have a pleasing smile, good verbal skills, and a nice long wish list to spend taxpayers money on. They also have no idea where the money is coming from.

There is some logic in getting outsiders in to do an efficiency report to be fair. As with everything, what do you get for your money ?

Management should have no hand in writing the remit, as the report is on the services they provide, and how well and cost effectively they provide them, hence they are conflicted.

They should start by having a review of what exactly all those managers do all day for the states apart from amusing themselves with computer games while the workers have to face the general public. Too many chiefs........
