Worldwide sounds for second Sark Folk Festival

Following the sell out success of the first Sark Folk Festival in 2010 the organisers have announced the first bands for the 2011 show.
With an international flavour the first five acts announced span the globe from Queensland in Australia to Rocquaine in Torteval.
The artists set to perform include Breabach, James Findlay and Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson.
The festival takes place in Sark on 1-3 July 2011.
Michael McGoldrick's Future Trad Collective combine celtic folk with breakbeats and afro-beat to create a contemporary sound using traditional instruments including pipes, whistles, flute and fiddle alongside guitar.

The Space Pirates of Rocquaine were the first local band to be announced

The winner of best folk band 2010 in the Scots Trad Music Awards, Braebach, will also be on stage in Sark.
Festival organisers describe them as "one of the most inventive and diverse bands to have emerged from the Scottish folk scene in recent years," and they feature among their number the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2008, Ewan Robertson.
More Scottish sounds will come from Dumfries & Galloway's Emily Smith who has been described "a Scottish Joni Mitchell".
English folk sounds will be provided by James Findlay, a Dorset-based traditional singer, fiddler and guitarist with a love of traditional English folk music and ballads.

The 2010 festival more than doubled Sark's population for the weekend

An antipodean flavour will be provided by Hat Fitz and Cara Robinson who combine country and delta blues with early Australian folk and traditional Celtic sounds to make music that has been compared to Seasick Steve and Joni Mitchell.
Also announced is the first band from the Bailiwick, the Space Pirates of Rocquaine , who put in one of the most crowd pleasing performances at the 2010 festival.
Tickets for the festival went on sale in November and are still available through the festival website or at upcoming Folkal Point gigs in Guernsey. (from BBC)
