No anonymity for sex crime victims
Anger is growing in Guernsey that the victims of sexual crimes are not given an automatic right to anonymity - as they have been for decades in the UK.
The issue has been highlighted by the prosecution of Filipe Burton who has admitted rape and two counts of attempted rape. The court had to make a plea to the media not to publish the identities of his victims - a plea respected by channelonline.tv.
Guernsey's Victim Support organisation say the lack of anonymity for victims in sexual assault cases is a serious flaw.
In the UK, the law granting rape victims anonymity has been in operation since 1976. Jersey brought in similar laws in 1992. In Guernsey the law is now under review. (from CTV)
