Guernsey Rugby player guilty of assaulting two Jersey players.
A judge has found a Guernsey Rugby player guilty of assaulting two Jersey players.
James Regnard has been found guilty of attacking both Dave Felton and Paul Rodgers at the St Pierre Park Hotel in May last year, after the Siam Cup.
There were no problems on the pitch during last year's Siam Cup - but during a night of drinking and socialising, a young Guernsey player was assaulted, and trouble erupted.
James Regnard headed to the St Pierre Park Hotel to find the man he wrongly believed to be responsible. It was there that the assaults took place against Dave Felton and his teammate and roommate Paul Rodgers.
The critical aspect of the case was to ascertain what happened inside the hotel room. Different accounts were given by witnesses and from the men involved, with both sides saying the other pulled the first punch.
The court had heard from four witnesses called by the Prosecution; the alleged victim, his Jersey teammate - who was also in the hotel room - and a woman, along with the hotel's night porter, as well as opposing defence arguments.
Regnard, who had denied the charges, made no comment leaving court. He will return to court for sentencing on 16 June.
