States approves grant for St George's
The States of Jersey will use public money to help prevent the closure of a fee-paying preparatory school.
St George's school in St Peter will be given the one-off payment to buy its buildings and land.
The amount is not known, but it will be the same as a grant it would have received over two-and-a-half-years.
This comes after the States decided to stop paying a grant to private preparatory schools as part of wider public spending cuts.
Education Minister Deputy Patrick Ryan told the States Assembly it would ensure the school's future.
The grant paid to St Michael's and St George's schools was due to be reduced to nothing over the next five years.
Instead of taking the cut St George's arranged to take the money as a single payment.
