Tourism on the up Empty Tourism on the up

Visitors are coming to Guernsey in their hundreds of thousands.

Numbers are on the up, but the island is proving more popular with some tourisits than others.

Guernsey is seeing fewer visitors over to see friends and relatives - they are down by a tenth.

But the number of holiday makers on day-trips has soared by 2 thirds, year on year.

One-day work trips are up by 40 percent, while those staying over on business are up by a tenth.

The biggest chunk, still goes to people on holiday for two days or more -148,000 people checked in last year.

The latest research also looks at where visitors are coming from and which routes are seeing the most traffic.

Visitors from the UK, Guernsey's biggest market, climbed six percent.

From France, there was an 11 percent rise and the numbers coming from other Channel Islands climbed by more than a quarter.

Dutch tourists however, dropped 12 percent.

Flights from East Midlands, Exeter, Bristol and Gatwick all saw passenger numbers rise.

As did the sea links to the UK, Jersey and France.

But some routes did see year on year falls, including Plymouth, Stansted, Manchester and Birmingham.

Overall, tourism bosses are glad to see visitor numbers are rising.

Be it for sunny beaches and coastal walks, or landing big-money business deals, more people are coming to Guernsey.
