Proposal to delay new car taxes debate
ENVIRONMENT wants to delay debate on its width and CO2 tax introduction until January.
It comes after sustained public pressure.
The department has now said that off the back of the strength of feeling about the additional taxes, which could add thousands of pounds to the price of a newly registered car, it wants more time to 'refine' its proposals. It wants to review how any changes will impact on the traffic strategy, have time to liaise with Treasury and Resources and the Policy Council.
Minister Yvonne Burford said it was still committed to the new taxes.
