Employment levels fall in Jersey Empty Employment levels fall in Jersey

The number of people working in Jersey is down for the first time in five years, official figures show.
In June there were 56,250 employed in the island, 360 people less than the previous year - a decrease of 0.6%.
The Jersey Labour Market Figures, published by the States, said the wholesale and retail industry saw the biggest decrease in employees.
Job vacancies in the private sector have also reached a 10-year low, the figures show.
When the figures were collected there were just under 2,000 jobs available in the island.
Statistician Duncan Gibaut said a smaller Jersey workforce was a reflection of the global credit crunch.
The number of people registered as unemployed in June was 960, an increase of nearly 300 in the previous six months.
While overall the size of Jersey's workforce has fallen, the number of people employed by the States has marginally increased.
