Thomsonfly is to cut Coventry–Jersey route
THOMSONFLY has announced its plans to terminate the Coventry to Jersey route from 3 November.
The news comes just days after a last-ditch appeal by Coventry Airport to get permission for a new passenger terminal at their Baginton site was thrown out by a High Court judge. Senator-elect Alan Maclean, the assistant minister for Economic Development, said that he was very disappointed with the decision, but added that it was a symptom of the difficulties faced by airlines dealing with the credit crunch and less consumer travel.
He said: ‘This is the harsh reality of the impact of the credit crunch. Jersey Airport is looking at some other options and we hope to fill the route with another airline, but this is going to be increasingly difficult in the present climate.’
Chris Browne, the managing director of Thomsonfly, said that the decision was taken following an ongoing review of the company’s business operations. He said that the company was focusing more on chartered flights rather than scheduled services since the merger of Thomson and First Choice last year. (from thisisjersey)
There will be more I am sure...
