JERSEY prisoners held in Guernsey cannot be sent straight back to their home island.
They must move to a jail in England or Wales first because legislation to enable them to switch islands directly does not exist.
The same applies to foreign prisoners who want to return to their country of origin – they have to apply for an onward transfer from a jail in England or Wales.
While Jersey is currently discussing a repatriation deal for foreign prisoners with UK officials, those here can transfer under an EU-wide convention or the Commonwealth scheme for transfer of convicted offenders.
Principal officer of security Alan Le Page (pictured) said prisoners would not be transferred automatically and some foreign prisoners would not apply for a transfer because they considered Guernsey their home or had achieved local status. (from thisisguernsey)

Unbelievable....
