Guernsey Christmas lights future in doubt _47787473_dsc_0321 The charity's chairman said there were tough choices ahead

The organisers of the Christmas lights in Guernsey's St Peter Port say the festival tradition could be in doubt if they fail to get the funds needed.
The charity that maintains and puts up the decorations said it feared it would not raise the £50,000 a year it needed.
Guernsey's Lieutenant-Governor Sir Fabian Malbon has urged retailers and islanders to do their bit.
He called on UK chain stores to think about donating money as they benefitted from the "atmosphere" of the lights.
Sir Fabian, patron of the charity Festive Decor, said: "They are probably not used to forking out for these sort of things, but perhaps ought to think about it and write home and say can we help them.
"They benefit just as much from the ambience and the atmosphere that the lights give at Christmas as the rest of the shops there.
"I think everybody who has got a shop down there, if they can should give something whatever it is just to help out and make Christmas a lighted time."
The charity's chairman Martine Ellis said if more money was not donated there would be tough choices ahead. (from BBC)

wish they would say what the money is for.it is not to buy all new lights it is to replace any bulbs .but they have to get sent off island
and the most cost is paying for someone to put them up!

Just forget the lights, and the rest of Christmas as well. It's all a load of bunkum anyway, just an excuse for rampant commercialism and for people who don't really like each other to pretend that they do. Why should people need an excuse for a family get together? They should do it because they want to, not because of a made-up tale about a baby being born in a chicken coop or whatever it was.
