There was more than one attraction on the St Helier Waterfront on Sarurday morning.

As the massive ferris wheel goes up, passengers on the newly-acquired Castle Ferry were feeling let down.

The amphibian - one of two bought with half a million pounds worth of taxpayers' money last week - was decidedly on the rocks.

The front chassis had become straddled on the wall of the old Victorian bathing pool some distance west of the causeway.(from CIonline)

Sounds like the Sat-Nav failed..lol

What the hell was it doing so far west?

And why did the State's dept. spend £500,000 on these two vehicles?

If Pure Adventure have the contract to run the service, they should run it and the business issues are theirs to overcome. If they're saying that can't fulfill their service agreement and have to default then at that point the issue of who's going to run the service should be tackled, I'm sure there'd be a better deal to buy the vehicles from a bankrupt firm than one who is just throwing in the towel.

It's a kick in the teeth to those others who tendered for the contract and lost out, and I think Pure Adventure's other leases with tourism for their banana boats etc.

It sounds as your states are like ours wasting money when there is no need ,as you say if it is a business venture let them pick up the full cost.

Okay, so now it's reported that the States spent £500,000 of taxpayers money to buy two vehicles valued at £400,000, the other £100,000 being compensation for loss of profit to Pure Adventure... because they didn't meet their service level agreement last season!?!

Where can I sign a contract, fail to deliver and walk away with £100,000 for not doing anything???

I wonder how the previous operator feels after being dumped, was he offered a chance to return with his three mothballed vehicles?

Surely if Pure Adventure can't deliver the promised service they should be paying, not getting paid to leave the contract.
