Plan to dump incinerator ash on ‘artificial headland’ Empty Plan to dump incinerator ash on ‘artificial headland’

PLANS to build a 20-metre-high ‘artificial headland’ at La Collette to dispose of ash produced by the incinerator have been revealed in a leaked report.

Environmental pressure group Save Our Shoreline has disclosed the report commissioned by Transport and Technical Services to the JEP after the group became seriously concerned about the plans.

Consultants Capita Symonds have carried out extensive research, including an outline fire safety strategy, for the proposal to create an engineered landfill cell next to the energy-from-waste plant.

Chris Sampson, of Transport and Technical Services, said: ‘We are currently depositing incinerator ash at La Collette and carrying out an environmental impact assessment to consider whether we can continue to dump it there for the next 30 years.’

He said that subject to the outcome of the assessment, a planning application for the ‘artificial headland’ would be submitted to Planning. ‘We have the in-principle approval of the waste regulators which work for Planning and Environment,’ said Mr Sampson. (from JEP)
