Jersey's new bus operator is expected to bring five double decker buses when it takes over next year, the transport minister has said.

Deputy Kevin Lewis said a contract should be signed in June with the new operator taking over in January.

The transport department has announced UK not-for-profit company CT Plus as the preferred bidder after a decade of Connex running the service.

Connex has said it will take its buses away when its contract ends.

Currently, there are two double decker buses on the island serving the airport route.

Deputy Lewis said: "The old contract was basically a service contract where Connex were paid to run the services, they collected the bus fares which came back to us.

"With the new contract, that will be part of their fee, so they will be actively chasing fares so we will have new buses all being well."
