Electric cars to cut island's carbon emissions
Electric cars could be the future for Jersey.
That's according to a charity which is committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
Electric cars have been around for years and show up in the news all the time but not many islanders are using them.
The Energy White Paper proposes that 23% of the island's total projected reduction in carbon emissions could be achieved.
That is through the introduction of 'Ultra Low Emission Vehicles'.
These are cars that emit extremely low levels of emissions.
Electric cars create less pollution than gasoline-powered cars, so they are an environmentally friendly alternative to gasoline-powered ones.
The charity, Zero Carbon World has a particular involvement in electric vehicles and believes that a switch to this form of transport could dramatically reduce the U.K's carbon emissions.
Mr. Sharpe, founder of Zero Carbon World, is the owner of a high-performance electric car - the Tesla Roadster - and he will be bringing this with him to Jersey.
He'll be talking on "Electric Cars: The Future for Jersey?" at 8.00 p.m. on Tuesday 15th January in the Members’ Room, Société Jersiaise, Pier Road, St. Helier.

Re: Electric cars to cut island's carbon emissions
It "may"make ecological sense to use electric cars, especially in C.I due to our short journeys but at the moment it makes no sense economically. No matter what statistics you look at electric cars are not a viable unless you are very comfortable financially.

Re: Electric cars to cut island's carbon emissions
Not just financially unrealistic, they are totally impractical. You have no indication of how much more milage you have left in the battery. Recharging times are ridiculous, it takes about 6 hours to replace about 1 hours usage. Battery life is limited and they are horrendously expensive to replace.
