Car insurance discs delayed again
Motorists in Guernsey will not have to display insurance discs in vehicles until 1 April 2009. After motor tax was scrapped, it was decided all motorists should display details of their insurance cover on their windscreens. The plan was to make this a legal requirement from the end of 2008, but it has not been possible to draft the laws in time, the Home Department says. The discs will have also to be displayed by drivers in Alderney Once again our states department cannot get things right.... |

I think in this instance the timescale originally planned for the legislation to be in place was a little optimistic considering the amount of other laws that have a higher priority.
I believe that the Law Officers have not been able to meet the deadline thus the three month delay.

Which bit; not having the new laws in place in a timely fashion, or having planned the new laws?
We've had these pointless insurance window 'discs' in Jersey for years, and they're just a waste of time. The Police etc. don't recognise them as proof of insurance, so they're only there as another pointless hoop to jump through to avoid a fine, for a fines sake.
