Litter Bugs Could Face Court

Smokers are being warned they could go to court for dropping cigarette butts.

37 people have recently been spoken to about the offence, which comes under the Refuse Disposal Ordinance from 1959.

Guernsey Police say more staged operations will follow to stop people doing it.

Officers say they want to stop the littering because it spoils the good work of the Parish Constables, Floral Guernsey and others who make our Island a pleasant place in which to live.(from Isle FM)

its about time to..there are areas in town you cant see the pavement for fag ends..mostly by the pubs

IMO that sort of education should be part of children's upbringing! surely the police have more important things to 'police' ........ where are the fanatics when you need them??? someone should start a group like GASP or STEPS that would stop them!!!

A bit of an exaggerated statement, Thistle. Banning smoking in pubs = Killing the pub trade and fag ends on the streets. How long before we have to wipe our shoes before walking on a pavement?

you only have to walk past certain pubs to find the pavement littered with fag ends..i agree banning smoking in pubs killed the trade and led to the littering outside..i think its something parents should be teaching children too but if the parents dont care how do you expect the children to bother either
